Fighting AIDS in the workplace
Unilever Tea Kenya offers a variety of initiatives as part of its commitment to fighting AIDS in the workplace. To raise awareness, the company runs employee health education talks, backed up with AIDS prevention materials. Clear stigma and discrimination policies are in place. Health care provision includes voluntary testing combined with counselling and treatment. Medical support services are offered to 80 000 employees and their dependents residing on company estates. The company collaborates with partners at a local level to bring its programmes to the wider community.
Speaking at the annual awards event, GBC Chairman, Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, and GBC President and CEO, Richard Holbrooke, said the awards honoured the six winners for their unique and groundbreaking contributions to the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Richard Fairburn, CEO, Unilever Tea Kenya, said "the award is a great credit to the team in Kenya and would not have been achieved without the passion, dedication and commitment of our HR, medical and HIV counselling staff."
The GBC is an alliance of international companies dedicated to combating the AIDS epidemic. Started in 1998, the awards recognise and promote examples of best practice among companies in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
